Easy, Delicious Onion Tomato Chutney served as a side dish with dosa, idlis Or chapati!
recipeIngredient (used american measuring cup, 1 cup = 250 ml)
For chutney-
  • 1.5 tbsp coconut oil
  • 3 - 4 dry kashmiri red chilies Or any dry red chili
  • 3 onion chopped into julienne
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1.5 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 3 tomatoes chopped finely
  • 7 to 8 chopped curry leaves
  • a pinch of asofoetida
  • 1 t/s whole bengal gram (chana dal)
  • 1 t/s white split gram (urad dal)
  • ½ cup chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp jaggery powder
  • 1 t/s kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1 t/s coriander powder
  • ½ t/s turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • salt as per taste
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 t/s mustard seed
  • a pinch of asofoetida (hing)
How to make the recipe?
  1. Take oil in a deep wide pan. Once oil is hot add the red chilies. Keep your face far as chilies might pop out.
  2. Now add the chana dal and urad dal. Saute for 30 secs on medium heat.
  3. Add curry leaves and turmeric powder.
  4. Once they crackle add onion with sugar. Saute until they are light golden brown in color.
  5. Now add ginger-garlic paste. Fry until the raw smell disappear.
  6. Time to add chopped tomatoes and coriander leaves.
  7. Saute tomatoes for 3 - 4 mins the add coriander powder, jaggery powder, tamarind paste, salt and red chili powder.
  8. Simmer until tomatoes are cooked. Switch off the gas and allow to cool.
  9. Now grind this mixture until it's smooth. Tempering is optional. Just heat oil add all the ingredients for tempering and mix with the chutney. Serve onion tomato chutney hot with dosa, idli Or chapati.

4. Store in the fridge would last for 3 days.
