Mathura Peda a sweet delicacy made during festive season.
recipeIngredient (used american measuring cup, 1 cup = 250 ml)
  • 1.5 cup unsweetened khoya (mawa or evaporated milk)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar or as required + ½ cup granulated sugar or powdered sugar for coating the pedas
  • ½ cup milk + 1 tbsp more milk
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder
  • ¼th tsp nutmeg powder
  • 2 tbsp pistachios chopped finely
  • 3-4 drops of vetiver or rose water or essence ( I used vetiver (kewra essence)
How to make the recipe?
  1. Infuse saffron in hot milk and set aside for 10 mins. Stir the saffron nicely with the hot milk.
  2. Take a non stick pan place on low heat. Add powdered sugar and khoya.
  3. Keep stirring them and mix them nicely until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Time to add saffron infused milk but the challenge here is to add milk little by little in batches. Add milk only once the previous milk is absorbed.
  5. Keep stirring and cooking until milk is absorbed and evaporated.
  6. Once the mixture starts leaving the edges of the pan. Switch off the gas add pistachios, rose water or vetiver water, cardamom and nutmeg powder. Combine all nicely.
  7. Make marble sized balls while the mixture is warm. Gently flatten them with your palm. Just toss the pedas over the powdered sugar or granulated sugar while the pedas are still warm.
  8. Allow the pedas to cool and serve them as offering or distribute as goodies.
1. The pedas have to be shaped while it's still warm.
2. You could mould them if you have the moulds or just shape them with your hand.
3. If you like more sweet then add more sugar as I prefer less sweet.
