Learn how to cook rice on gas stove perfectly each time every time.
recipeIngredient (used american measuring cup, 1 cup = 250 ml)
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 6 cups water
  • salt as required
  • few saffron strands (optional)
How to make the recipe?
  1. Firstly rinse the rice with your hand under running tap water. Rinse for 3-4 times atleast.
  2. Add water to the vessel and place over the gas stove. Also add salt.
  3. Allow to simmer and cook uncovered on high heat.
  4. After 5 mins you would see some rice floating on top.
  5. You would see the rice has almost doubled it's size and the water rising. At this point reduce the heat.
  6. Once you see the water bubbling and rising to the top. Check if the rice has cooked then drain all the water with the help of a cloth. Ensure you don't over-cook the rice or they would tend to be sticky or mushy.
  7. Now after removing all water place back on gas on low heat. This time cover with a lid and allow to cook for 2-3 mins. Alternatively you could strain the rice over a colander and don't cook further. However I prefer to cook for a minute covered on the gas.
  8. I have added few strands of saffron that is optional.
  9. Now switch off the gas and keep the rice covered. You would notice its cooked separately and is not sticky.
  10. Serve your rice with your favorite dal, sabzi or curries.
1. Ensure you don't over-cook or under-cook the rice.
2. Adding saffron is optional.
3. You could add 1-2 cloves, 1 blade of mace and 2 cardamom for aromatic rice. However it's optional.
