Easy Sweet Potato Patties recipe.
recipeIngredient (used american measuring cup, 1 cup = 250 ml)
  • 200 gms sweet potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 green chilies finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp chat masala
  • 1 t/s asofoetida (hing)
  • ½ t/s turmeric
  • 1 tbsp fennel seed powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin seed powder
  • 1 t/s coriander seed powder (dhaniya)
  • few coriander leaves
  • 4 tbsp rice flour
  • black salt Or salt as per taste
  • for outer coating:
  • 4 to 5 tbsp rice flour Or 4 to 5 tbsp semolina
How to make the recipe?
  1. Boil the sweet potatoes upto 4 whistles Or until tender. Allow to cool down peel off the skin. Keep them aside. Combine sweet potatoes and all spices except oil. Mix them with your hand also mash the sweet potatoes.
  2. If the mixture is yet sticky add little rice flour. Now spread some flour on your hand and shape them into round balls. Slightly flatten the balls with your palms. You could give any shape Or size you desire.
  3. Take rice flour on a plate. Roll these balls on both sides with rice flour. I also rolled the mixture into kebab shape. Later rolled them on semolina. You can do both ways if you wish. Take a non stick pan for shallow fry. Add little oil spread all over. Once oil is hot place these balls on them. Fry them until golden brown from both sides.
  4. Place them on napkin to absorb excess oil. Serve hot with green chutney and tomato sauce.
1. Ensure the sweet potatoes are nicely boiled and tender. If you feel it's hard still boil for further more time.
2. Shallow fry consumes less oil and better for our health.
3. You could try frying them semolina Or rice flour both tastes great.
4. You could make it more spicy by adding more chili powder Or green chilies.
