Goan Prawns Fry

Ooh La La Prawns Fry Goan Recipe! One of my hot favorite and I am sure your’s too ;) …. They not only look yum but they taste super yum. This  is made with basic ingredients easily found in your kitchen. You can eat this as breakfast, brunch, lunch, side starter Or just eat like that. I don’t look for any time I just pop these Prawns Fry in my mouth!……. again courtesy my mom :)

There are a lot of variations to fry prawns in Goa itself …….. some add wet paste, some add dry paste and marinate prawns and fry. I like all ways as I love fish fry :) ………..

My cousin loves Prawns fry and she drools over it. After seeing this post I am sure she will be swayed away to eat them. My mom, dad, my pet in short all of us love fish fry.

You can club these yum Prawns Fry with bread, rotis, rice, curries Or vegetables. Also you could club this with stew Or salads. My mom simply fries rice into these fried prawns. It’s simply superb I have taken these prawns rice in my lunch box while in school.

Total Time: 15 mins marination + 10 mins for frying

Serves: 2 to 3 people

Ingredients:

  1. 250 gms fresh cleaned prawns
  2. 5 tbsp oil
  3. 1 t/s haldi
  4. 2 tbsp red chili powder
  5. 2 tbsp vinegar
  6. salt as per taste
  7. few coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

Firstly clean prawns remove their spine (black thread) and keep aside. Combine turmeric, red chili powder, salt and vinegar. Form paste with a spoon Or finger. I don’t have a pic for this one.

Rub the mixed paste on the clean prawns. Marinate for 15 to 30 mins.

Take oil in pan. Keep heat on low mode. Once oil is hot add prawns to it and shallow fry them.

Fry until golden orangish brown from both sides. Keep the heat on low Or medium mode.

Your Prawns Fry Goan is ready. Dab some tissue paper to absorb excess oil.

Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot.

Tip:

  • Take fresh prawns. You could marinate for 3 to 4 hours also before frying.
  • You could use same paste for marinating any fish.
  • If vinegar is not available you could use lime juice instead.

Hi Maria…. Really interesting site …simple recipes – yet with loads of flavour! Thanks. Enjoying cooking them. Have to confess that though being Goan didnt know how to make quite a few of the dishes. Could you please post the recipe for prawn Xec Xec?

Hi Chris,

Thanks a ton :) …….. Prawn Xec Xec is normally made at my mom’s house. I have shifted to Pune and you don’t get fresh fish as Mumbai. So you will have to give me some time until I get hold of nice fresh prawns for Prawns Xec Xec. Take care and will soon update you on the same.
