Chocolate Berry Cake Or Chocoberry Cake is a perfect cake to make during valentines day :)….. Love is in the air so is the Chocolate Berry Cake lol 😉 I had close friends dropping home yesterday. So I made this moist Chocolate Berry Cake on occasion of valentines day! Also for dinner I cooked Chicken Chettinad, Baked vegetables with white sauce and cheese and for dessert Chocolate Berry Cake. Not to forget starters I made cheese chilly toast.
I never got a chance to click Chicken Chettinad pics as I was too busy cooking. Also baked vegetables tasted good but potatoes were half cooked. Some fiasco does happen while cooking right? But that’s how we learn by not committing those mistakes again. My savior of the day was chicken chettinad, cheese chili toast and the Chocolate Berry Cake.
I wanted to club strawberries+chocolate=Chocolate Berry Cake. But all this while I was thinking should I put strawberries in the cake Or should I make the frosting of strawberries, should I mix both? Finally I thought of mixing strawberries with chocolate and make a moist, soft, supple, delicious Chocolate Berry Cake.
My friends loved the cake apart from my hubby. My hubby is not a cake fan. Even my neighbors and maid loved them. They thought its from cake shop and found it yum. The cake is over now (: but I am gonna make them again for sure. I was quite happy with my flavor fusion and experiment.
I also wanna try strawberry cheese cake Or strawberry mousse. Gosh I love berries be it any kind. I am awaiting anxiously for mangoes as this time I wanna try something unique with them. Soon I will work on my chat section. Something I have been waiting for to make them and binge on.
Total Time: 35-30 mins baking + 20 mins preparation
Yields: 6 to 7 pieces
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp refined flour
- 3 tbsp whole wheat flour
- 30 gms dark chocolate
- 5 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp instant coffee Or expresso Or mocha (any flavor you like)
- 1 t/s baking powder
- 150 gms castor sugar Or brown sugar (add sugar as sweet you require)
- 5 tbsp milk
- 1 egg (yolk and white separated)
- 6 to 7 strawberries chopped into small cubes
- 5 tbsp unsalted butter Or margarine ( I used margarine)
- 1 t/s salt
- 1 tbsp vanilla essence
For Frosting:
- 125 ml whipped cream
- 75 gms castor sugar Or as sweetness required
- few strawberries
- 4 tbsp grated dark chocolate
- 4 tbsp grated white chocolate
Method:
Firstly chop strawberries into cubes. Add some castor sugar into it about a tbsp. Keep them in the fridge.
Preheat the oven at 180°C exactly ten mins before baking. Grease a round pan Or heart pan with butter Or olive oil. Place a parchment Or butter paper at the bottom of the pan.
Take wheat flour + refined flour. Add salt and baking powder. Sift all dry ingredients keep them aside. I don’t have a pic for this one.
Double boil dark chocolate and butter over low heat. You could also microwave on high power for 30 secs. Add coffee powder, milk, cocoa powder to it. Beat this mixture with a electric beater. The mixture should be homogeneous, smooth and no lumps. Keep this aside.
Beat egg whites into a separate bowl. Add 3 tbsp castor sugar into it. Beat until soft peaks formed. Also beat egg yolk into a different bowl. Beat yolks until light and fluffy. Now add sifted flour – salt-baking powder mixture slowly into chocolate mixture. Beat nicely at medium speed. I don’t have pic for this one.
It’s time to add the beaten egg yolks. Now again beat nicely until all blends well. Add the egg whites and beat again. Beat in a low speed until all beats well. Lastly add vanilla essence.
Pour half the batter into the greased pan. Spread all the chopped strawberries with castor sugar on them.
Now pour rest of the batter on the pan. The strawberries might float on top that’s okay.
Bake at 180°C for about 15 mins then slow down the temperature to 150°C and bake for 20-25 mins more Or until skewer comes out clean from the cake. Do a toothpick test if it comes out clean and cake has left the edges of your pan. Your cake is done. Allow the cake to rest for 15 to 20 mins. Dust some castor sugar on it before inverting the pan. Be gentle as the cake might be moist.
Now let’s start making the frosting. Take whipped cream and add castor sugar. Beat nicely until soft peaks are formed. Refrigerate the cream-sugar for 30 mins. Now spread them on the cake. The cake should be nicely wrapped with cream. Refrigerate the cake until it’s nicely chilled. Now grate the dark chocolate all over the cake. Grate some white chocolate also.
Just decorate with fresh strawberries on the sides and center of cake. Your Chocolate Berry Cake is ready. Serve chilled with a dollop of strawberry icecream.
Tip:
- Frosting is optional. I have used Bluebird whipped cream. You just beat the whipped cream in a bowl kept over chilled water Or ice cubes. Refrigerate and mix sugar. Beat again and use them.
- For easy frosting you could just melt dark chocolate Or white chocolate with butter. Spread them on the cake.
- Chocolate can be grated Or you could also use vegetable peeler for different look. Just ensure chocolate is firm else it will melt in your hand otherwise.
- This cake tastes great by itself too.
- Allow the cake to cool down before you invert. As the cake is soft it might just drip down. So be patient while inverting.
Enjoy Chocolate Berry Cake!
Hope everyone had a lovely valentine day 🙂

This does look fabulous! Lately I have been craving a lot of fruit-it may have to do with the weird weather we are having here. Snows on one day and 70 degrees the next! Chocolate, whipped cream and strawberries-those three really do say Happy Valentine’s. It is not surprised that everyone enjoyed this, with the exception of the one that has a dislike for cake in general. Have a great day Maria!
