I had pumpkin in my fridge along with sweet potatoes, peas and cheese. I instantly thought of making Pumpkin Sweet Potato Patties with cheese and peas. Also made it chatpata by dressing the Pumpkin Sweet Potato Patties with sweet curd, spicy chili sauce, tomato sauce and green chutney. My hubby just loved these Pumpkin Sweet Potato Patties. It got over so soon as I ate some and gave some to my neighbors who also relished Pumpkin Sweet Potato Patties 🙂
The best part of these Pumpkin Sweet Potato Patties are no one can guess what are the ingredients inside these yummy patties. MY hubby isn’t fond of eating pumpkin, radish, spinach, mushrooms and the list is endless. So I always have to come up with a healthy version and combination of veggies just that he could eat them. In the same way if you have kids at home who are fussy about veggies. Please make these Pumpkin Sweet Potato Patties, for them. They will eat them quietly 😉
This recipe is easy to make even bachelors can make them. For binding you can add bread crumbs Or corn flour. I have used both of them. I just started operating my DSLR roday with a happy and scared feeling. Happy to use it and scared if I do something wrong! It’s fun just reading the manuals. It gives me a mixed feeling just like when you get your report card after exams 🙂
My hubby is excited to come home in evenings as he always gets to try something new and tasty back home! I hope I live up to his expectation as being human sometimes you do make mistakes. Also all the time when you attempt to make something new it can be a disaster also (: I am sure we ll have faced it. Just yesterday I tried baking a Chocolate Banana Cake in a loaf pan. It was a disaster guess my oven doesn’t like loaf pan as only the exterior gets baked not the base. Anyways I had to discard the cake.
There are so many dishes to explore with veggies. I am soon gonna try variations at non veg section as well. I am dying to make frozen treats, shakes and cheesecakes. I am gonna surely binge on mangoes this weekend. Try making Mango Lassi Or Mango desserts.
Pumpkin Sweet Potato Patties recipe step by step:
- Firstly boil sweet potato and pumpkin separately until tender. I used pressure cooker for steaming both veggies. Peel off their skin and chop them into small cubes Or mash them.
2. Combine all the above ingredients except oil and bread crumbs. Use your fingers to incorporate the mixture. If you feel the mixture is yet wet add little more cornflour to it. Prepare 2 inch balls and keep ready.
3. Also prepare the stuffing combine all the ingredients together and keep aside.
4. Rub some oil on your finger tips and palm. Flatten the balls with your fingertips. Now take a spoonful of peas-cheese filling and place it on top. Now gently cover the filling with sweet potato mixture. Don’t add too much filling else you won’t be able to wrap them and the filling will come out. Also if the filling comes out never mind.
5. Repeat the same with rest of the balls. Roll these flattened balls on the bread crumbs.
6. Take a pan add oil to it. Once oil is hot shallow fry them from both sides until golden brown in color. Be gentle while frying else it might break. Place them on absorbent napkins to absorb excess oil from them.
Sweet Curd: Combine all ingredients and beat them nicely until sugar dissolves. I used caster sugar for less hard work ;). Ensure you use chilled yogurt else it won’t taste that good.
You can use any spicy green chutney of your choice. I have used 2 green chilies, 1/2 cup coriander leaves, 1/4 th cup mint leaves, 1/2 onion slices, 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste, salt to taste. Grind all these and your green chutney is ready.
Also I never had sev, papdi etc so I clubbed some tomato ketchup. Just serve these patties on a plate. Top it with green chutney, pour sweet curd on it and put some tomato ketchup. Sprinkle some chat masala on top.Your Pumpkin Sweet Potato patties is ready. Serve hot Or cold.

i tried ur recipe of manchurian when i mixed all vegetables salt squeezing the extra water that came out due to salt added to vegetable on mixing cornflour again mixture become watery and i have to add extra cornflour but binding become very difficult can u tell me what went wrong
maria says
Sushma firstly when you was veggies wipe them with a cloth. Else water will make the veggies soggy. Other thing is keep the veggies aside with salt for 10-12 mins. Then mix cornflour and make them Or keep them in the fridge. Even this will help. Honestly I diidn’t face any problem. I just rubbed some cornflour to my finger and made small balls of it easily. If you finding difficulty then add some more cornflour. Hope this helps..

The hubs really doesn’t like sweet potatoes, mainly because they are too sweet for his tastes. However, your ingredients here do lend a lot of other flavors that tone down that sweetness. Besides that they do look delicious the way you have presented them.
By the way I do like the changes you made to your blog, I seriously need to update mine. A mango binge does sound like a refreshing idea-there is so many tasty things you can make with that fruit!
