It’s getting hotter day by day in Pune (: so best way to handle heat is by keeping yourself hydrated. How would you keep yourself hydrated and cool ? quite easy drink loads of water, avoid going out in hot sun, drink aam panna, falooda, kokam sherbet, amla sherbet, have lots of sabja (basil seeds), cold milk, juices, buttermilk, yogurt etc. Hope this tips helps you also take out your hats, caps, stoles to cover your head from scorching sun:)

Aam Panna Recipe

I have been longing to make Aam Panna for a long time. I was myself dehydrated and feeling pale last 2 days. My hubby asked me to make Aam Panna for beating heat. So I made it Aam Panna was quite refreshing, cool, quenched my thirst also made me hydrated instantly.

Aam panna recipe is made in various ways. Some add mint leaves some don’t some make from raw mangoes some make from semi ripe mangoes. If you make from semi ripe mangoes you will need less sugar hence low fat. I have used raw mangoes as didn’t find semi ripe mangoes anywhere. Also have used jaggery instead of sugar.

I will try more variations of Aam Panna but check this version now…… find details right at the bottom of the page.

Let’s make step by step aam panna recipe:

1. Roast carom seed, fennel seed and cumin seed until lightly roasted don’t burn them. Now pound with a pestle and mortar until coarse powder formed.

2. Slice the raw mangoes into 2 to 3 pieces. Steam Or cook them in a pot with some water covering them until they get tender. Check with a knife if you are able to mash them. Switch off the gas. Alternatively you could pressure cook until 2 whistles until they are cooked and tender. I cooked them in a pot covered with half lid on medium heat.

3. Now scoop out the pulp with spoon and discard the peels. Grind the pulp with jaggery granules, mint leaves and 1 cup of water.

That is so interesting about this drink. It seems right that something that grows in the more tropical countries is useful for sunburn. This look so thirst quenching.
