Goan fish curry recipe made with golden anchovies , recipe comes from mothers treasure-bank! This is a traditional goan curry made with fish called mandeli. Mandeli are nothing but golden colored small fish found abundantly in Indian. The english name for mandeli are golden anchovies. Few days back I had posted Goan prawn curry which is quite similar to this curry. But few spices and ingredients are different for this golden fish curry. To know more check the recipe details right at the bottom of the page.

You could use any fish for this curry like mackerels, shark fish, pomfret etc. Fish curries with steamed rice looks like match made in heaven. They taste also too good together. I also love to dip pao (bread) in my curries.
We ate our fish curry with fried golden anchovies and rice. Sea food is my weak side, I just flip over sea food. Coming back to the curry it’s quite simple to make and tastes best after few hours. It’s made with basic ingredients easily found in your kitchen. We prefer medium spiced food however if you love hot food then add some more red chilies.

I cook Goan fish curries often. I noticed u haven’t mentioned cummin seeds in the mandeli fish curry? Don’t u use it in fish curries? In my mandeli curry, I rub the onion with salt instead of frying it.

Natty cumin seed we use in fish curries but not used for this curry. Being a goan we all have a lot of variations in our dishes. You could cumin seed as well it’s optional for this curry. Hope this helps you 🙂 take care.
