Yummy Goan Clams Recipe! My first recipe on clams that too Goan style courtesy My Mom. This recipe ofis easy and tasty. There are lot of ways you can make clams. Even in Goa there are a lot of variations to make clams. I can vouch thisrecipe tastes amazing with Bread and Steamed Rice. You could mussels also in similar fashion.

Goan Mussels

Mussels are my favorite that too the ones made from mom. Along with my family even my pet loves it. I am sure you will love it too. This recipe is quite simple even bachelors can make them. The only critical part is to clean the mussels and dice them. You need to clean the mussels properly as it is consisting of muddy particles.

1. Very important wash the clams thoroughly.

2. Dice them into 2 halves. Keep them immersed in water once you clean them.

3. Take grated coconut, 1chopped onion, red chilies, cinnamon stick, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, turmeric, pepper corn, javitri.

4. Combine them in a grinder to form a paste.

5. Grind all of them into a coarse paste. Add little water if required.

6. Now take a wok or vessel add oil. Once oil is hot saute the other onion.

7. After a minute add the coarse paste and saute for 2 mins on low flame.

8. Add the cleaned mussels along with the immersed water.

9. Now stir all of them. Add a glass of water or as consistency required. Cover with a metal plate or dish with some water on it for about 5 mins on low flame. Don’t have a pic for this one

10. Remove the lid carefully. Once the curry starts bubbling and gives aroma. Lastly add salt and kokam to the mussels. Switch off the gas.

11. Your goan mussels are ready. Serve hot with bread, pav or steamed rice.

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 750 gms of clams
  • 200 Gms Fresh Grated Coconut (1 half coconut)
  • 12 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 tbsp Cumin Seed
  • 1 tbsp Turmeric
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Seed
  • 5 Kashmiri Red Chilies
  • 2 inches of Cinnamon Stick
  • 2 tbsp Pepper Corn
  • 1 mace (Javitri)
  • 2 Onion Chopped(1 for paste other for tadka)
  • Salt as Per taste
  • 1 glass water or as consistency required
  • 5 to 6 Kokam

Notes
1. Add potatoes if you want vegetables in the clams.
2. It is very crucial when you are buying clamsthey shouldn't be open. They should be closed if you find them with opened shells. Then it's a clear indication they are spoiled. Do remember this when you buy next time clams.
