Marzipan

September 22, 2018 by maria 4 Comments

Marzipan have been my favorite since childhood. I have always been eating Marzipans during easter and Christmas. Especially I used to thrive on marzipan served on the platter when we used to visit family, friends during occasions. My mother never made marzipans as she used to make other sweets during easter. This time I decided to make marzipans along with easter eggs at home. Turned out quite neat and delicious. I have wrapped marzipans for give aways during  easter.

Marzipan

Usually Marzipans are made in India with cashew powder. I have made with almond powder freshly grounded at home. As I don’t like to use ready made powders from the shop or market. Marzipans are amazing in taste. You can make marzipans with cream, milk or without them. Also for colorful marzipans you can add food colors which I usually avoid. I have used rose petals for taste and light pink color. For dark brown color I have used cocoa powder.

Marzipan

For binding the marzipans I have used desiccated coconut flakes. I love the coconut flavor in marzipans. If you don’t like coconut flavors than you can skip coconut. I have already made easter nests for my eggs you can click here for Easter Egg nests.  The Easter egg nests look very creative and beautiful. You should try making them as it gives an artistic look to the eggs.

Marzipan

For marzipans I have used vanilla essence. You could also use green cardamom powder for as strong flavor and aroma. The best part of marzipans are you can take your kids help. As you can make any shapes or mold you desire with marzipan dough. I am sure kids will love them as being and adult I love so its natural for kids to love making easter eggs. Do give them an opportunity to make at least one easter egg 🙂

Marzipan

Make your Marzipans in crescent shapes, cut them diagonally with your knife to give a square shape. Also you can place a a sharp edged metal bowl or a cork to give around shape. You can also make lovely flowers with these marzipans. Be creative and let your imagination run wild! 🙂

Total Time: 20 mins+3 hours in fridge

Serves: It depends what kind of shapes and mold you are using

Ingredients:

  • 1 and 1/2 cup Almond Powder or Finely Grounded
  • 1 cup Icing Sugar Or as sweetness required
  • 2 t/s Vanilla Extract or Essence
  • 4 tbsp Cream
  • 2 tbsp Butter

Method:

Take a heavy bottomed pan. Combine almond powder, cream, butter, sugar and essence with a spoon or spatula.

Marzipan

Cook all of them on low flame. Once the mixture starts leaving the edge of pan. Switch off the gas.

Marzipan

Let this mixture cool slightly. You could add shredded coconut as I have used. Now divide the dough into 2 parts. Add cocoa powder to one part and powdered rose petals to other. Now roll them into desired shapes.

Marzipan

Keep them in the fridge for 2 to 3 hours. Your Marzipans are ready to be served.

Marzipan

Before serving you can make colorful wrappers to your marzipans.

Marzipan

Also you can decorate marzipans with some candies to make it more attractive. Now place these decorated Marzipans on a nest if you have made one.

Otherwise just serve them on a platter. Have colorful  marzipans and your assorted marzipans are ready.

Tip:

  1. If the dough is sticky you can add dry shredded coconut or some wheat flour to make it thicker. Also while giving shapes rub some oil to your hands. This will prevent your fingers to stick to the dough.
  2. The other method of making this Marzipan is combine cream, butter, vanilla extract or essence with powdered sugar on low flame. Once all the mixture is incorporated well. Switch off the gas and pour this mixture after cooling on the roasted almond powder. Knead a dough and form shapes and forms of your desire. Keep them int the fridge for 3 hours. Your Marzipans are ready.
  3. You can avoid cream if you wish to while making marzipans.
  4. Also don’t keep these marzipans into the freezer.

Marzipan

Happy Easter to all of you!
