Ginger Tea Recipe – a traditional indian drink made with tea leaves, milk, sugar and loads of fresh ginger. In India during monsoon everyone loves to have adrak wali chai with hot pakoras or vada pavs. I fortunately had all this today with my friends with loads of fun, pouring rains and awesome weather 😉 and looking more forward to it. Personally love monsoon, maggi noodles, chai, friends and some good food. In fact even in restaurants or cafes I request for making ginger tea even if its not listed on their menu.
In ayurved ginger has lot of curative properties to cure cold, cough and aid digestion. Also ginger tea or adrak wali chai is a traditional tea right from ancient culture. Both fresh ginger and dried ginger are used in tea. In-fact if we happen to get drenched in rains Indians would sip ginger tea to protect from cold. So do have ginger tea but only once or twice a day, its good for you.
Also when you combine ginger, lemon grass and cardamom in tea it helps in reducing migraines. Learned from our visit at the Sahakari Spice Garden Farm at Goa. So I keep brushing my skills on food every now and then.
This recipe comes from my friend whom I have seen making. I learned this recipe, got it right and make it regularly now. Ginger Tea is one of my favorite tea and love to have with ginger biscuits, cheese toast sandwiches or aloo pakoras. My mouth is watering right now 🙂
Learn how to make ginger tea recipe step by step:
1. Firstly rinse the ginger. Peel their skin I didn’t peel the ginger as the skin was too thin and delicate. If ginger has lot of mud on it don’t worry just soak them in water for 1-2 hrs the mud will come out. Then just peel their skin.
2. You could pestle the ginger with a mortar.
3. Alternatively you could grate the ginger.
4. Boil water in a vessel or a saucepan.
5. Add 2-3 teaspoon of sugar or as required along the grated or crushed ginger.
6. Simmer for 3-4 mins or until ginger leaves their own juice and flavor.
7. Add 1-2 teaspoon of black tea leaves/powder. If you like mild tea then add 1 teaspoon, if you like strong tea then add 2 teaspoon of tea leaves/powder.
8. Allow the tea to simmer on low heat.
9. You would see after 4-5 mins the tea would start bubbling.
10. You could wait for sometime more until it bubbles strongly.
11. Now add 4-5 tablespoon of milk or as required.
12. The milk will start boiling.
13. Once the milk also starts bubbling switch off the gas.
14. Strain the tea through a strainer into the cups.
