In India moong dal khichdi in liquid form in given to babies and also people who are suffering from illness. As this khichdi is healthy and easily digested. Also the ghee in khichdi makes it even more healthier. This khichdi is very light on stomach, easy to digest and great way to detox your body.

Khichdi has lot of variations but its made out of lentils(dals) and rice along with vegetables. Many households in India add onion, tomatoes and veggies to make the khichdi more flavorful and healthier.

The day I am falling short on time or have a busy schedule then I make khichdi. I love to have khichdi topped with ghee along some raita and papad. Khichdi is a very popular dish across India and the neigboring countries as well.  We had moong dal khichdi with baingan bhaja and onion raita. Even masala papad will go well with khichdi.

The texture of the khichdi has to be slightly mushy but it depends how you like to eat your rice. In our house generally mushy rice isn’t preferred. You could use any type of rice for this khichdi recipe, I have used basmati rice for this recipe.

Moong Dal Khichdi recipe step by step :

  1. Firstly take 1/2 cup rice and 1/2 cup mung dal together in a bowl wash them thoroughly under water.

8. You could make the khichdi mushy by adding more water or make them look grainy as biryani. I don’t have a pic for this step.
9. Switch off the gas and serve moong dal khichdi hot with ghee smeared on it and serve some salad or pickle along the khichdi.
